Re-opening of School

Dear Parents/Carers,

Speaking at the daily Downing Street briefing yesterday, Boris Johnson said he was setting out the government's intention so teachers and parents could "plan in earnest" for school to resume on 1 June, in just over a week.

He said the formal decision would be taken as part of the three-week review into the lockdown measures, which the government is legally required to carry out by Thursday.

If the formal decision taken on Thursday is NOT to re -open schools, we will follow this advice and remain open for reduced provision ONLY.

However, with this decision looking increasingly unlikely, we are pushing forward with our plans to re-open to children in YR and those who are considered vulnerable (with an EHCP and/or social worker) on Tuesday 2 June.

The re-opening of school demands that staff implement many new procedures to ensure the safety of everyone on site. In order to do this, Westbury Infant School will be closed to all children, except reduced provision, on Monday 1 June. This is to enable staff to practise and refine safety measures before children enter the site.

Children in Y1 and Y2 (unless considered vulnerable or the child of a key worker) will continue learning at home throughout this phase. The activities on the home learning blogs takes into account activities for all of term 6.  As soon as we have more information about when these children can return to school we will be in touch. Children will be contacted by staff weekly in the meantime and the class emails remain in use.

Reduced provision will carry on as normal, but will move to classroom 2.

If your child is due to come back to school on Tuesday 2 June, a member of staff will be in touch by telephone this week to go through the arrangements for drop off and pick up with you and inform you which members of staff will be looking after your child.

Every child has been placed in a small group of up to 15 children from their own class. They will be with at least one member of staff from their class and also with some of their friends.

If you decide not to send your child back to school yet, we absolutely respect this decision and you will not be fined for non-attendance during this period. Please let us know of this decision by email head@westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk or phone 01373 822716 by Friday 9am to help us fine-tune the small groups.  If we don’t hear from you, we will assume your child will be coming in on Tuesday 2 Jun.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding at this time.

Mrs Budge, Head Teacher
