Welcome back to Autumn Term 2! We hope that you had a wonderful half-term holiday. The children have been very keen to share their news with us and it sounds like you have enjoyed some wonderful days together.
This week, we have launched our new topic, 'The Magic Toymaker' and the children have enjoyed sharing their own special toys from home that they like to play with. We have explored using the correct vocabulary to describe whether our toys are old or new and to what degree. We were surprised to discover that one of the teddies is in fact 94 years old as it belonged to a grandparent when they were small- wow! We have used our sketch books to carefully draw detailed pictures of our toys and we have written detailed descriptions about them, too. We carried out a 'Knowledge Harvest' in order to find out what we know already about modern toys and those from the past and we also thought about how toys make us feel when we play with them. We are very much looking forward to our trip to Trowbridge Museum on November 10th where we will find out more about Victorian Toys from the past.
We would like to say an enormous thank you to Mrs Smith and Mrs Parker for creating a brand new toy shop role play area in our classroom in which we can enjoy being creative, imaginative and expressive. It really does look absolutely fantastic! If you have any toys that you would be happy to bring in to supplement our toy shop (until the end of term), we would be very grateful and promise to treat them with care and respect. Look out for photographs coming soon!
