We had the most amazing day at Warleigh Lodge Farm today and were very lucky that the sunshine joined us too! The children made wonderful farmers and got completely stuck in to all the jobs. We started the day by pulling up the beets ready to feed all the animals throughout the rest of the day. The children worked together to pull up the bigger ones and were thrilled to see how big they were. We then got on the tractor and headed off to feed the sheep. It was a bumpy ride in the trailer but a lot of fun. We got out of the tractor next to a 500 year old tree. The children loved climbing all around it but also went right inside. After a run through the field we ended up sploshing along in the stream. The children loved the squidgy mud! After another tractor ride to feed the cows and their calves we stopped for a quick bit of lunch. After our pit stop we went down to the pigs to get their straw bed ready for the night. A few of the children even had a stroke of the pigs. We went on to the chickens next. The children fed them corn and stroked them, then it was time to collect the eggs. The children were very gentle at picking them up and placing them in the bucket. Our final job of the day was to feed the goats and we even got to stroke Tonic the donkey.
We are super proud of the children. Thank you to our parent helpers, especially 'Old farmer Down' who stepped in as gate opener for the day. It was a day was full of mud, smiles and laughter. I think we'll all sleep well tonight!
