On Friday we invited our grandparents in to our class. To go with our work on the seaside we have been listening to stories of the Rainbow Fish. Together we created lots of different fantastic fish. We think they look wonderful. It was also fun to play games together.

This week was exciting in lots of ways. Firstly, we all spent a day with our Year 1 teachers and new classes. It was great to see how busy you had been. Miss Jones was glad to welcome you back on Thursday, especially as it was for Sports Day.
We had a brilliant Sports Day! We had fun taking in the variety of races and the fairness showed during the morning. Well done to everyone.

Well done to all those who did their reading and homework this week, making us joint winners!
It was a really hot week, but we kept on drinking water, which helped us to be ready to learn. What could be better in a hot week, but to learn about capacity and explore with the water tray. Not only did we measure capacity, but investigated length as well.
To continue our topic of "Oh I do like to be beside the seaside" this week we thought about the sand, sea and creatures. We made fish, paper plate crabs and seaside inspired transient art pictures. We end our week by writing Under the sea stories.
Next week will be Sports Day, so today we were able to go over to Westbury Junior School to have a practise running on the track.

Following on from our fantastic time at Boscombe, this week we have carried on with our topic "Oh I do like to be beside the seaside". It was great to build big castles with the large tubes outside. The water tray was a popular choice, we have been measuring capacity and playing with boats.
We have also been thinking about travelling to the seaside. We watched 'Magic Granddad' and he showed us how people in years gone by travelled. It was very interesting to see horses and carriages, very different from the coach we went in last week!
Our Ice Cream Parlour has been a popular place to be and it has been good to see counting in the shop. Some of us made up stories of about families.
This week we have been learning about 1 more and 1 less. We used all sorts of things to count with including the cars, Numicon and the Compare Bears. Some of us began thinking of our own number problems. We ended we week by using the hundred square to find 1 more and 1 less for larger numbers. We have been practising to count back from 20.
In P.E. we have been doing races and getting ready for Sports Day. We found that we had to have good balance to keep the quoits on our heads and the space hoppers were very bouncy.
Well done to all those who did reading at home this week.

On Thursday we went to Boscombe, to spend the day at the seaside. Our topic this term is "Oh I do like to be beside the seaside" and this was our starter.
The children were fantastic on the beach and all the teachers are proud of their behaviour. The rain that came down heavily on our journey cleared for our time on the beach and we had fun!
At the seaside we had a talk from the RNLI Lifeguards, who taught us about beach safety. We paddled in the sea, pretended to surf the waves and built sandcastles. Before we went home we all had an ice lolly and walked down the pier, where we found amazing percussion instruments. One instrument even played "Oh I do like to be beside the seaside".
A big thank you for all those who came to help us at Boscombe and helped to give the children a wonderful and memorable learning experience.
This we was the finale to our topic Wriggle to Roar. We played lots of games, on an animal theme. On
Thursday we invited family members as our end of topic celebration. We enjoyed teaching the adults our games and making Wriggle to Roar hats.
On Friday we said goodbye to Mrs Ward and her husband who have been cooking our dinners for us. We made Minion hats to wear and ate our dinner to the song Happy.
We have had a fantastic week learning about dinosaurs and listening to lots of Harry and the dinosaur stories. We create pictures on the computer and fossils in clay or playdough.
In Maths we have been learning to count in twos, then later in the week we found out about odd and even number. By sharing cakes we learnt about numbers being odd and even.
A big thanks to the families who came in to school to share the children's journals this afternoon. The children love sharing their learning and talking about their achievements. We hope to repeat this again next term.
Don't forget next Thursday afternoon is our end of topic celebration. We are hoping to play lots of games with you.
