On June 11th the children had an amazing day at Boscombe. The weather was brilliant and perfect for paddling in the sea. The lifeguards on the beach gave a talk about their job and how to stay safe. It was great to play on the beach, enjoy the waves coming in and spending the day at the seaside. Take a look at some of our pictures.
Today, the Circus came to the school. We watched a performance and then were taught skills, such as plate spinning. At the end of the day some of us performed in front of all the school.
People Who Help Us: Dentists
Today the children were taught how to brush their teeth correctly. They decided which foods were good and bad for teeth, had a story about the tooth fairy and even dressed up as a dentist. All the children were given a tube of toothpaste and a new toothbrush to make their 'teeth sparkle like Meghan Markle'!
On Monday 21st May the Honey Bees celebrated the marriage of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan. Everyone had a fantastic afternoon. First everybody watched highlights from the wedding. Next they watched the dancing club and teachers go around the Maypole. This was followed by cake, dancing and play on the trim trail. It was a very happy afternoon.
The money raised from wearing red, white and blue is going to Scotties Little Heroes, a charity chosen by the Royal couple.
We have had a few busy weeks finding out about People who help us. It has been great to have visitors in to school. Last Tuesday we went to Morrisons and saw lots of people work to supply us with food and drink.
Today we were glad to welcome Basil and Ellen from Westbury Library to our assembly. They came to launch our joint loyalty scheme, between us and the library. On Friday (tomorrow) all the children will take home a loyalty card.
From now to the end of June the children will get points for going to the library, a point for taking out books, attending a special event and if a they or a family member joins. There is an inter class competition, the winners (worked out by percentage) will have a celebration in July.
The librarians at Westbury Library look forward to seeing lots of children.
On Monday it was great to have a visit from Mat and Caroline, from the community police team. They told the children how to stay safe, if they get lost and who they can should get help from.
All children loved looking at the police car and some sat inside. The siren was very loud!
This week the warm weather arrived. When it is hot please remember that the children spend time outside and a summer hat will protect them. But, it is still only April and the children still need a coat with them.
This week we began our People who help us topic. Firstly, we have been thinking of those in their families and people at school who help them. But, we are also thinking of how they can help themselves, as we become more independent with learning in class.
We went on a walk around Westbury looking for where people do jobs that help other people. We
stopped at the Library, for a short story.
Next week we are going to Morrisons, to look behind the scenes and are expecting a visit from the Police.
In the week that Honey Bees went to the church for the Easter Service, there were lots of busy children learning about Easter and the story of the Rollaway Chocolate Egg. The children enjoyed making their moving egg pictures and are getting confident joining things with split pins. Also, puppets were made for story telling.
In Maths the children were learning the addition pairs for the number between 5 and 10. To do this they used the part, part, whole model and made up number stories.
Take a look at some of our learning in the photographs.
