Thank you so much to all of our amazing grandparents and great grandparents who were able to come and enjoy our open afternoon. We had a lovely afternoon together and I know how much it meant to all of the children to be supported by so many wonderful grandparents.
We had fantastic learning opportunities on offer. The first was our colouring challenge to re-design the white horse. Westbury infant school definitely has some amazing artists not only in our students but in their grandparents too. Take a look for yourselves!
Next we had the opportunity to show off our map reading skills by looking for 10 key features of Westbury, such as the swimming pool, library, fire station, to name but a few, that had been hidden around the classroom. They then needed to be marked correctly on a map.
We also had another mapping activity outside on the trim trail, where 9 different White horses that can be visited in Wiltshire, had been hidden. Once again the children needed to use their navigational skills and powers of detection to place them on the map of the trim trail.
Our final activity was using our orienteering skills where grandparents and the children needed to follow instructions to navigate themselves around our small scale Westbury, in the classroom. They used directions such as 1/2 and 1/4 turns, clockwise and anti clockwise and where knowing your left from your right was also very useful!
We had great fun learning in a relaxed and enjoyable way.
