Over the last couple of weeks we have enjoyed finding out about all of the interesting places of interest in our local area, discovering different places to eat in Westbury and talking about the variety of accommodation Westbury has to offer. We then used all of this information to start creating our own information leaflets. In our writing we tried to use exclamation sentences, commas, statements, a range of suffixes, conjunctions, contractions as well as remembering to capital letters, full stops and neatly joined handwriting. What a lot of things to remember!
We have been reminding ourselves this week about doubles and halves of numbers; using our Part, Part, Whole model to help us solve number problems about measure and embedding our knowledge of time. Ask your children to show you how to use the Part, Part, Whole model as well as practicing telling the time to the nearest 15 minutes or 5 minutes.
We have also enjoyed a variety of opportunities to spend time getting to know some of the Junior school teachers and had a really enjoyable afternoon going on a treasure hunt with the year 3 children. We split off into groups of 6 and made our way around the school looking for hidden story book or film characters. For bonus points we needed to try and name the film or book that all of the characters featured in. I think the children were a bit more knowledgeable than some of us teachers! It was a really enjoyable way to find our way around the Junior school and get to know a few of the other children in the school. As well as a treasure hunt afternoon, the Junior teachers have also spent time with us in our classrooms where we could ask them lots of questions about Junior school routines and they taught us a maths lesson too.
