We have been really enjoying our new topic about Castles and Gardens. We have had lots of fun in our 'Garden Centre' role play area and particularly like planting and digging in the real soil! In Science, we have been finding out about the different parts of a plant and also what they need to grow well. Well done to all the children who have produced some beautiful homework- we have seen some fantastic labelled flowers, including delicate roses and lovely tulips!
We worked hard on Monday afternoon to paint realistic pictures of castles. We were only allowed to use grey paint (which we mixed ourselves using black and white paint) - and then had to mix light and dark shades of grey to paint the brick details. They look great and are currently displayed in our classroom if you would like to come and have a look.
We are very much looking forward to visiting Farleigh Hungerford Castle on Friday. We have our fingers (and toes) crossed that the weather will be kind to us all. It will be great to observe the features of a castle from first hand observations.
This week, we have also learnt how to do some Country Dancing! Mrs Rockey taught us how to do the Dorset Ring Circle Dance. We teamed up with Puffin class and made a gigantic circle and had lots of fun together. When we have perfected the dance we will post some videos on our blog for you to see.
Finally, and probably the highlight of the week so far....... we made PANCAKES!!!!! They tasted absolutely delicious. We chose from a range of toppings, including lemon juice and chocolate sauce. We would like to say a great BIG thank you to Miss Hillier, Mrs Bray and Mrs Bishell for helping the whole of Year 1 make the pancakes.
