Welcome back and Happy New Year!
We hope that you have all had a wondeful Christmas with your families and the children are refreshed and eager to start a new term of learning. We are thrilled to be in our new classroom, back in the main buidling. It now seems quite strange looking out of the window and not seeing the mobile classrooms anymore! If you have not already had a chance to pop in and see your child's new learning environment, please feel free to come and have a look.
This term, our whole-school topic is 'Around the World' and the Owl's study country is going to be SPAIN. If you have any relevant books, photogaphs or even knowledge about the country, we would love to share this with the class.
We will be finding out about what is like to live in Spain compared with Westbury and will be learning some key words and phrases using the Spanish language. We are also planning to find out about some of the traditional food eaten (with plenty of cooking opportunities ahead) and we have a dance expert visting next week to teach us some Flamenco dancing...how exciting! :-) Miss Hillier has worked incredibly hard to create the most amazing role play area- a Spanish cafe (with alfresco dining!) The children are all eager to develop their speaking and listening skills, writing skills and social skills (to name a few) in the role play area. We will post some photographs soon!
Finally, if you would like to come and hear the children read and feel that you (or perhaps a grandparent) can spare some time, even if it is just for an hour a week, we would love to have you. Please come and talk to us if this is something you would be able to do. Daily reading is so important for the children and every opportunity that we can create for them to do this is incredily valuable.
