We are very proud of the children in Owl class for settling so well into life in Year 1! We have had a busy first week, learning the new rules and expectations and getting used to our classroom. We have done some special writing about ourselves and our families, which you can see on our display board, as well as some fantastic self-portrait paintings of our faces! In Maths, we have been revising how to count, add and subtract numbers up to 20. We have also enjoyed creating owl collages and learning some interesting facts about owls. Did you know that an owl swallows its prey whole?!
One of the best things about being in Owl class is having a class pet. We have our own giant African snail which is a baby at the moment but will grow rather large in time! Each day, the "Special Person" ensures that the snail is sprayed with water and is fed a variety of fruit and vegetables. You are very welcome to come and meet our snail!
We have a class mascot, too....an owl teddy which we have named Goldie. Every Friday, we choose a Star of the Week and this person is able to take Goldie home for the weekend as a special treat.
We are going to start a new topic next week...'The Farm', which we will be starting with a trip to Warleigh Lodge Farm. We are very excited about meeting the animals up close and learning about the role of a farmer.
