The children have worked incredibly hard this week! We have introduced 'Gem Powers' across the whole school to help us with our learning behaviours. We have started with Ruby gems, which we can earn when we demonstrate support and kindness towards others. Our jar is filling up very quickly!
We have continued to find out about life on the farm. In Science, we have matched baby animals to their mothers and have compared the features and characteristics of mammals and birds. We have added some of the new vocabulary to our English 'Working Wall' to help us with our spelling.
In Art, we have been making some fantastic clay farm animals, which we will paint at a later stage. We had to push, pull, pinch, stretch and mould the clay, which really worked our finger muscles! We have made pigs, horses, ducks, cows and sheep and they look fantastic!
Take a look at the video below to see some of us in action:
In Maths this week, we have been finding out about 2D shapes, such as rectangles, squares, triangles, circles and even pentagons, hexagons and octagons! 2D shapes are flat and have length and width. We' have tried sorting the 2D shapes into a Venn Diagram. If the shape has both of the criteria, e.g. green and a triangle, it can live in the intersecting set (in the middle). If the shape does not have any of the criteria, it is not allowed inside the Venn Diagram and must live outside around the edge. Take a look at the Venn Diagram below:
Remember to take a look at your online maths homework, on the Abacus site. Your child has been sent home with their log in details and password. If you are unsure about this, or have not received the log in details, please come and speak to us. We hope you have fun playing the games and they help you with your shape knowledge!
