We have had another great week of learning in Owl class. We started the week by finishing our entries for the Royal Mail Christmas stamp competition. We have entered the age 4-7 category...two children will be chosen from all the entries across the country to have their designs made into real stamps this Christmas. The children's designs have been excellent so we stand a fantastic chance!
We have continued to find out about castles and have looked in detail at what it is like inside the castle walls. We were surprised to learn that in the Great Hall, which was used for dining, the food waste (such as bones and scraps) was left all over the floor and was covered in reeds and spices to hide the smell. Yuck! Our dining rooms are certainly not like this at home! The children produced some fantastic writing about each of the rooms in the castle. The dungeons were a popular subject!
In Maths, we have been continuing to practice adding and subtracting. We have used 0-100 number squares and different number tracks to help us count forwards and backwards. By the end of Year 1, we would like the children to be confident in counting in 2s, 5s and 10s up to 100 (and back again!) so if you could support your child in doing this that would be great.
We have also been busy making some special things for our Mums.....ssssssshhh!!!!!! It would be lovely if you could make it to our Mother's Day assembly next Thursday 23rd March at 2pm in the hall.
