This week we have been learning about The Great Fire of London. We discussed where and how the fire began in a little Bakers Shop on Pudding Lane and subsequently, the dangers of fire and how quickly it can spread. Puffin Class really enjoyed this topic and were very interested in how the residents of London were able to escape and they also came up with some fantastic ideas on how they could rebuild London to make it a much safer place.
Puffin class discussed what causes fire and the fire triangle. (Fuel, Oxygen, Heat). We did a little science experiment and observed a burning candle. We placed different sized jars over three identical burning candles and predicted which one will take the longest to extinguish and why? The children decided that the one with the biggest jar would take the longest to go out as there was the most oxygen in the biggest jar.
In maths this week, we have been working hard on number bonds to 5 and 10 and using our number facts and resources to solve lots of different word problems.
