The Puffin class have settled into Year 1 life very well and we are so proud of them! We have had such a busy first week and we have already been learning a great deal, especially about expectations, getting to each other and our class rules, we have also been getting used to our new classroom.
This week we have been talking about ourselves and we have done some beautiful writing which can be seen in our classroom along with some fantastic self-portrait paintings. In maths we have been learning to add and subtract numbers to 20 and in other subjects, we have been learning about the human body and creating maps of our school.
Our class wouldn’t be complete without our class pet Lola, a Giant African Land Snail. She is just a baby at the moment and is the size of a normal garden snail, but she will grow rather large over the year. Our special helper each day will ensure that she has fresh food (she really likes cucumber) and water. Please feel free to come in and meet her.
We also have a class mascot, a Puffin teddy, who we have called Dave. Every Friday we choose a Star of the Week and that person can take Dave home for the weekend as a special treat. He also has his own scrapbook ‘The Adventures of Dave the Puffin’, which the children can write in and describe what they have done with Dave over the weekend.
We are really looking forward to learning more about Puffins next week.
