Charmouth Trip

This week the children enjoyed a trip to Charmouth beach. This linked with our history topic, Mary Anning. The children spotted a road sign for Lyme Regis and commented on how that was where Mary Anning was born!

The children has the opportunity to look around Charmouth Heritage Centre. There was a huge range of fossils, including Attenborough's Sea Dragon and replicas of the Itchtheosaurus that was discovered by Mary Anning.

While on the beach, the children learned about types of fossils that are very common in this area of the Jurassic Coast. They found lots of parts of ammonites and belemnites and were lucky enough to take home their precious finds. A child remembered that Mary Anning used to call fossils "curiosities", and commented on how they were searching for curiosities.

Take a look at the photos from our fantastic day out - the weather even held out for us!
