Westbury Infant School and Resource Base

Friday 11th February - Millipedes are Historians

We have had another wonderful week in Millipedes this week.  This week we have enjoyed looking at old photos of Westbury and compared these to what we see in Westbury in the Present Day. We looked at old photos (1910-1950's) of All Saints Church, the Train Station, and a school photo of Westbury Infants Children. We had an excellent discussion about the photos and the children came up with lots of ideas of what was the same and different in the pictures. They even came up with reasons why they thought things were different. We also had the opportunity to look at some books which told us about the past. Fabulous work Millipedes.

Carrying on with our topic of 'Westbury and beyond' we have been junk modelling this week. The children have made a Westbury Landmark, they made the church, they have used paintbrushes and sponges to make the brick effect on the outside of the church and have also made stained glass windows to put onto the church. We will share the finished church with you next week.

In Maths we have continued learning about 6.7 and 8. This week we have looked at making pairs. Some of the children went into the role play and worked together as a team to peg pairs of socks up in pairs. They had lots of fun working together as a team, they were communicating well and were practicing their fine motor skills using the pegs.

We finally finished our wonderful White Horse painting which were inspired by Helen Chester (a local artist). Have a look at our wonderful pictures!

In Life Skills this week we were looking at what it is to be kind, the children came up with lots of lovely ideas.
