This week began with the children listening to the story ‘Commotion in the Ocean’. The children enjoyed identifying the rhyming words in the text and also talking about the different creatures that live in the sea. During continuous provision the children have had the opportunity to create different sea creatures and learn more about the creatures that live beneath the sea. As part of our art work over the last few weeks the children have been creating seaside pictures and this week they finished their project with amazing results.
Dragonflies Seaside Art
In our maths sessions this week, the focus has been on odd or even numbers. The children have had the opportunity to explore what numbers are odd or even using the numicon. We have used two books to help the children understand the difference between odd and even numbers. We looked at ‘Odd Todd and Even Steven’ as well as ‘The Odd Day’. Following on from the odd day, the children decided to create ‘odd or even’ monsters. The children talked about the features on their monsters and whether they were odd or oven.
Dragonflies Odd and Even Maths
At part of our topic work this week the children explored what it was like to go to the seaside in the past and compared it with what it is currently like. In our RE lessons we looked at special places and the children talked about where they like to go with their family.
Throughout the week the children have had lots of fun practicing for Sports day. Thankfully the weather held off on Friday and the children got the opportunity to show off their skills as they competed in the races.
