We have had an amazing week of learning linked to the Queen’s Jubilee. The children have enjoyed listening to ‘Royal’ themed stories such as the ‘Queen’s Knickers’, ‘The Queen’s Handbag’ and ‘Little Elizabeth’. This has inspired the children to create new handbags for the queen, create a new jubilee crown and design a new castle for the queen to live in.

Dragonflies Castles

On Monday afternoon, the children enjoyed a visit from Rosie the school dog. The children got the opportunity to sit with Rosie as they listened to a range of stories. We had a lovely afternoon and I think Rosie enjoyed all the attention the children gave her.

In our Maths learning throughout the week the children have been looking at using shapes to create pictures. First, they matched the shapes they could see on shape pictures, placing shapes directly on top of the picture. Then they were provided with an outline and challenged to match the correct shapes to create a picture. Following on from matching shapes on a template the children chose a picture to recreate using the pattern blocks and they were amazing at using the picture to help them select the right shapes and then positioned them to make a replica of the picture. Towards the end of the week the children looked at ‘Tangrams’ and had a go at making a tangram animal. The interactive whiteboard was a hit with the children this week as the children had the opportunity to use the online pattern blocks to create a picture.

It was a joy to see so many parents attend our Jubilee Celebrations on Wednesday. The children enjoyed preparing the food for the event and I think you’ll agree that the queen rice cakes and crown biscuits were a big success. It was lovely to see the children’s crown creations with lots of sparkly gems. The bubble machine was a big hit and a great way to finish the afternoon celebrations. On Friday all the children were delighted to receive a special teddy bear to mark the platinum jubilee.
