Friday 29th April 2022

Wow what a very busy first week! We started the week by reading the story ‘Katie’s Pictures’. In the story, Katie visits an art gallery with her grandma. Whilst the grandma sleeps, Katie looks around the gallery and discovers she can enter the pictures. This inspired the children to create their very own pieces of art with a world they would like to visit.

In our Maths Sessions, we have been looking at numbers beyond ten. The children have practiced making numbers 11-20 with numicon and tens frames. The activities this week have included playing race to 20 where the children roll a dice and add the counters to the tens frames the first player to fill two tens frames is the winner. We also presented the children with a challenge to work out what pieces of numicon that would fit into each building to make a cityscape.

We have been looking at the artist Tom Yendall this week. He is a painter who uses his mouth and feet to paint. The children were fascinated watching him create a picture. We also went into the nature area this week where the children used things they could find to create a self-portrait.

Dragonflies Faces

On Friday, we ended the week with a visit to Bath. The children went to the Victoria Art Gallery to learn about self-portraits. The children looked at the pictures on display and some even dressed up to look like the picture. Then the children had the opportunity to create a self-portrait using a range of media. Following the visit to the Art gallery we had a picnic in the park then the children had the opportunity to explore the equipment in the park before we headed back to school. It was a lovely day out and I would like to say a massive thank you to the volunteers that helped on the trip.
