Friday 4th March - Busy Busy Millipedes

WOW, what a busy week.

Millipedes have had such a jam packed first week back. On Tuesday it was Shrove Tuesday. All the children measured out ingredients and mixed their pancakes. Miss Grieve was cooking the pancakes and did a fabulous job. The children then sat at the table and ate their pancakes together, they had a choice of lemon and sugar as their toppings. The children enjoyed making and eating their pancakes, all the children tried them even if they weren’t sure they would like them, and some kept asking for more!!

Wednesday was our Trip to the farm. This trips links to our topic ‘All Creatures great and small’. Whilst at the farm we spent time in the forest school area, digging and looking for different bugs and insects that lived in the forest.

After that we then made willow rings and thought about how birds make their nests before going on a hunt around the farm for birds nests. Miss Grieve’s group stood out in the rain and did some bird watching before going under shelter to find birds nests.

Finally we spent time with the animals, there was so many animals in the barn, from emus to cows, rabbits to goats. It was so wonderful to see so many animals all in one place. The children were given the opportunity to feed the animals bread and bananas. They were able to hold chickens, stroke guinea pigs and so much more. The children had such a fantastic time at the farm and learnt lots about all the different farm animals. Miss Grieve’s group were so fortunate because they were able to watch baby lambs being born. The ewe (mummy sheep) had three healthy baby lambs and it was such an experience for all of the children.

Thursday was the 25th anniversary of World Book Day. The children all dressed up in their favourite book characters. It was wonderful to see so many brilliant costumes. We were so lucky that Mrs Kerbey had organised us a dance workshop based on the three little pigs. It was a brilliant workshop and the children had so much fun learning the dance routine.

After such a busy week we finally made it to Friday. The children were still talking about the farm visit, some even did some writing about the farm, others made animal masks of different animals at the farm. We finished the week off by looking at the Lifecycle of a Hen. The children watched the process of chicks hatching too, before using role play to act out the different stages in the lifecycle of a hen.

Millipedes have had the best week back at school this week and we look forward to plenty more to come this term.
