Friday 4th November 2022

The children arrived back at school excited to talk about their holidays. It was lovely to see everyone looking fresh and ready to start a new term of learning. This week we had a mystery to solve on Monday afternoon, we had a visitor to the class and there were lots of clues such as tusks and purple prickles…can you guess who might have paid a visit? That’s right it was the Gruffalo…luckily, he had disappeared before the children arrived back from lunch. The children have enjoyed learning about the story of the Gruffalo and were fantastic at retelling the story in the sensory garden.

The children are now grouped for Read Write Inc phonic sessions which will support the children on their reading journey. Please check out the RWI blog for videos which help to support your child with their blending skills:

In our maths learning this week, we continued to learn about the number 4 as well as comparing amounts. Towards the beginning of the week the children compared numbers using the language more or fewer. We have consolidated our knowledge of representing numbers on a five frame and the children are able to identify numbers up to five without counting. Towards the end of the week we started to look at the composition of number four. The children looked at how many apples were in the tree and how many on the ground. We worked through all the different possibilities.

In our topic sessions this week we have focused on significant events such as Halloween, Diwali and Bonfire night. The children have enjoyed sharing their experiences of these events. The children have shown their creative skills to think of ways to create fireworks using a range of media. Take a look at some of the learning that happened during continuous provision.
