Wow what an amazing week getting to know the children. It was lovely to see all of the children at home and then welcome them into school. We’ve had a great start to school and the children have enjoyed exploring their classroom and the school environment.
This week we have looked at our school routines and read lots of starting school books. The children have enjoyed playing ‘get to know you’ games and as a class we are making a 'guess who book' to put in our class library. We have played 'Bug in a rug' where one child hides under a blanket and the other children guess who it is. We also played a listening game where one child played a musical instrument and then the other children had to guess which one it was.
We have started to sing number songs and rhymes this week and the children really enjoyed two songs. I have attached the links below if you would like to practice these at home with your children.

We have also looked at dice patterns and whether the children could recognise the dots without counting. We introduced the children to the word ‘subitise’ which means to recognise a number of objects without counting.
Our favourite story this week was ‘Pete the Cat – Rocking in my school shoes’ and the children enjoyed singing along to Pete’s day at school.

Next week we will be starting to learn our letter sounds and begin our phonic lessons. We will post the links to videos we have been learning on the blog next week. We will also be looking at the ‘Colour Monster’ story next week and discussing emotions.
Staffing for the week ahead:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: Miss Thrippleton and Miss Adlam
Tuesday – Mrs Bayley and Miss Adlam
If your child isn’t featured in the blog photos but you would like them to be then please let me know.
Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing the children next week for their first full week of ‘big school’.
