Westbury Infant School and Resource Base

Friday 10th November

What a brilliant week we have had in Bumblebees!

Our older children have continued their work on ‘Where the Poppies now Grow’. In English sessions the children have been reading acrostic poems and performing them as a class, then they have been writing their own poems about a soldier. They had thoughtful ideas and took real pride in writing up their poems in their best handwriting.

In math's the children have been looking at teen numbers and made them using Base 10 and created a range of addition sentences. We have also had some children working on subtracting when they have had to exchange a 10.

In Science we have been looking at how animals, birds and amphibians are born and whether they come from an egg. The children had to decide. We also focused on all the stages of life from baby to elderly person and how a persons needs change over time.

Next week we will be making some small musical instruments. If you have any small pots, egg cartons, milk cartons or old containers in your recycling they will be gratefully received!

Our younger children have also had a very busy fun filled week. We have focused on the story, 'Stick Man,' by Julia Donaldson. They collected their own sticks and made their own stick people, painted stick men and listened carefully to the story. In addition to this we have been learning our first 6 sounds (links below) and trying hard to count out amounts accurately to at least 10.

We have seen friendships continue to blossom and it is just lovely to watch.

Well done Bumblebees!

Information

Please can we ask if you haven't done so already that you bring your child's library book back into school on Monday, we like to make sure the children get a new book every week. Can we also ask that reading books are bought back into school with their reading diary every day as this links with their phonics lesson. Thank you for your support.

Links for phonics sounds, these can be used in combination with the picture side of your phonics cards:
