Friday 15th March

As always, it has been another busy week in Bumblebees!

In our maths sessions this week, we have been looking at position, direction and movement.  The children have been giving and following directions to say where an object is placed (on top, below, next to etc.) and they have been looking at 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and whole turns.  They have have also had a look at repeating patterns and ordinals numbers.

We started a new topic this week all about plants.  We have dissected a flower to look at the roots, stem, leaves and petals and have discussed what role each part has.  On Wednesday, we were lucky enough to have a visit from a gardener in school.  She told us all about the different types of plants that she grows and explained that some plants grow from seeds and others grow from a bulb.  We then had a  look at different seeds and bulbs and used the magnifying glasses to take a close-up look at them.  We finished the week by setting up an experiment to find out the best conditions for growing cress seeds.  We made predictions about what we thought would happen and will wait to see if we are correct.

In our English lessons, we have been reading the story 'Jim and the Beanstalk.'  We have drawn story maps to help us retell the story and have looked for lots of different nouns (naming words) within the pictures.   On Friday, we used the playdough that we made to make the different characters from the story and we used these to act out some of the parts.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend
