Friday 16th June

What a fantastic, hot week we have had in Bumblebees!  The year 2 children have been really busy in Maths learning how to weigh objects. They started off by comparing the weights of objects using the correct vocabulary before moving on to weighing using cubes. It has been really practical and the children's vocabulary has been fantastic. In addition to this in their topic sessions this week Year 2 have moved on to looking at Henry Ford and how he began manufacturing cars using a production line. The children set up an assembly line, one person made the chassis before passing it on to the next person who inserted the axles. Then the wheels were added along with the wheel nuts then the steering wheel. They did a fantastic job. Obviously we didn't make real cars but used Playdough, and Mobilo! Well done Year 2s.

In Year 1 our children have been continuing their learning about money in Maths. The children grouped coins and notes into pounds and pence and counted in coins, using their knowledge of 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s. Then, they applied our skills to add amounts and create a 'shop', where they priced up objects from around the room and the items were bought using the correct amount of coins.

Other learning within our class has included looking at the story 'Billy's Bucket.' Billy really wanted a bucket for his birthday, so his parents bought him one. Inside Billy's bucket are all kinds of wonderful sea animals. We encouraged the children to think about what they would have in their very own bucket and they designed these as well as lots of talk about the seaside which fitted in very well with the hot weather this week!

We finished the week as super proud adults in Bees! All the children completed our Colour Run and didn't give up even in the heat, well done Bees!

Notes:

Tuesday 20th June - Year 2 children visiting Juniors

Thursday 22nd June - The children will be attending their trips. Please send your child in with a small backpack to carry their lunch. We will need to keep an eye on the forecast to wear weather appropriate clothing.

Please can all children make sure they bring a sun hat to school in this hot weather. We will continue to offer water throughout the day. Please could you also ensure they have sun cream on if it is due to be very sunny. Thank you so much for your continued support.
