Friday 19th January

Our Bumblebees have worked really hard this week and have made us all very proud!

In English, the children wrote their own stories using  'The Three Little Wolves and the Bid Bad Pig' as a stimulus.  They changed the characters of the story and the materials from which their characters built their houses and they came up with their own unique endings.

In our math's work, the children have either been  looking at subtraction and how this relates to addition in a fact family or they have been looking at multiplication and division.  They have used tens frames and counters, number lines and part-whole models to help them solve calculations.

In science, we carried out some experiments to find out which material would be the best for making a school uniform.  The children made predictions and then tested out their ideas by scratching different materials against the playground floor and noticing which were the most hard-wearing.   They decided that fabric was definitely the best as it was the only one that didn't rip.

In our computing work, the children experimented with the order of their algorithms (instructions).  They were only allowed to use the commands FORWARD, FORWARD, RHIGTH TURN or LEFT TURN but they could change the order of these commands.  They then had to predict where the Beebot would end up if they gave it a specific algorithm and test out their ideas.  They discovered that the order of the algorithm is quite important as it can change where the Beebot finishes.  We will use this information next week to help us write some of our own algorithms.

On Friday, we had a chilly but enjoyable PE lesson outside.  The children worked on their throwing, bouncing and catching skills and then challenged themselves to either throw or bounce a ball, clap and then catch it again.  It was tricky but they had great fun trying!

Well done Bumblebees, keep up the hard work!

Have a fantastic weekend.
