Friday 2nd February

We have had a busy and exciting week in Bumblebee Class.  On Tuesday, we were lucky enough to visit the space dome.  We found out about the different planets in the solar system, looked at a close-up of the moon and sun and found out why we have night and day.  The children listened really well to the speaker and asked some great questions - well done Bumblebees.

As part of our history topic, we also had some visitors from Trowbridge Museum in school on Wednesday who introduced the children to Mary Seacole and explained some of the similarities and difference between her and Florence Nightingale.  The children enjoyed finding out about the herbal remedies that Mary used to help wounded soldiers in Crimea and they loved being able to dress up and handle a lantern just like the one used by Florence Nightingale.  During the afternoon, the children played a game where they had to decide if the picture or object that they were looking at was from before Florence Nightingale's time in Crimea, during her time there or after her time there.  The children were all very good at this game and could explain why they thought what they did.

We are looking forward to welcoming all the parents into class on Monday afternoon from 2:30 and hope that you will enjoy looking through the children's books and hearing how enthusiastic and knowledgeable they all are about our nurturing nurses topic.

Have a great weekend everyone!
