Friday 8th March

On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day.  The children (and adults) looked fantastic in their costumes and many different words were represented.  Throughout the day we talked about our favourite stories and listened to our favourite books being read.  We had fun making our favourite story characters out of playdough and we painted pictures of the front covers of our favourite story books.  We decided that we all really love stories and we had a great day celebrating them!

In our English lessons this week, we have finished off our instructions for how to plant a sunflower.  We have been working really hard trying to remember our finger spaces to make it easier for other people to read our writing.  We have also been using our phonics to help up with our writing.

In Maths, we have been learning about capacity and volume.  We have filled and compared different sized containers and put them in order according to their capacity.  We had lots of fun filling and pouring the water, cubes and pasta into the different containers and seeing which could hold the most.  Sometimes we found the results quite surprising as we thought one container would hold more than another because it was much taller than another container but because the shorter container was wider it held more!

We have also come to the end of our Henri Rousseau topic this week.  The children have created some fantastic collages inspired by the work of Henri Rousseau.  They printed and cut out leaves, drew jungle animals which they coloured with pastels and used patterned wallpaper to create their jungle backgrounds.  They have all worked so hard and we are very proud of them all.
