Westbury Infant School and Resource Base

Kenya, recounts and fractions

The children have worked so hard this week in their learning! We came to the end of our Kenya topic and answered the question 'How does living in Westbury compare to living in Kenya?' The class made posters all about what they learned about the country, before using this information to complete their essay the next day. They showed an amazing level of understanding and produced fantastic work!

In English, the children started the week by acting in the role of Jamina in the book 'The Hunter'. Then, the children planned and wrote a recount of the story as if they were Jamina.

Year 1s have been investigating a half in maths this week, while year 2s have recognised a 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4 of a shape and amount. On Friday, they found non-unit fractions of a shape, e.g. 3/4, 2/3, 3/5 etc.

Next week we start our DT sewing, we are looking for adult volunteers to help on TUESDAY 14th MAY at 1.30 - 3.00 to thread needles and support with our running stich. Please email class4@westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk or let Miss McMillan know at the door dropping off or picking up :)

Also, we are looking for parent helpers to come on our last trip of the year to Haynes Motor Museum on Thursday 13th June. Again, please let Miss McMillan know if you can help!

Hope you have a lovely weekend and Bank Holiday!
