Performing Meerkats!

Firstly, it was lovely to see so many of you this week at Parents Evening and have the opportunity to share your children’s progress and achievements with you.  May I also take this opportunity to say thank you for all your continued support at home with your children’s learning especially with their reading and phonics.

Please see this week’s RWI blog to access videos.

This week has just flown by but that does not mean that the Marvellous Meerkats have not been busy growing their brains!  On the note of growing, please do continue to send pictures of the sunflowers as they grow.

Inspired by ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’ by Raymond Briggs the children have looked at how they could write a sequel to the traditional tale of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears.’  To help us sequence the story, the children, in small groups, re-enacted the story.  It was lovely to see how the children’s confidence in performing to the rest of the class has grown and also how respectful the children were as an audience.  Well done Meerkats!!

In maths, the Year 1 children were adding and subtracting numbers within 20, counting on and back.  They used number lines, rekenreks and tens frames to support their understanding.  The Year 2 children were working with tally charts, and creating and interpreting data from pictograms.

We continued looking at plants and how they grow in science.  The children looked at the life cycle of a sunflower and myself and Miss Smith were quite blown away with the fantastic work produced and the scientific vocabulary used – some children even went to show their work to Mrs Newbury!

In Computing, we identified how we could group people by attributes. We played a version of ‘Guess Who?’ to help us identify the different attributes we could use.  The children worked well in their teams once we all got the hang of only asking questions which required a yes or no answer.

In RE, we have been looking at the Christian celebrations of Easter and today we had our Easter service All Saints Church.  Thank you to the parents who joined us to walk to and from the church.  Your help at these events is very much appreciated.

We are looking forward to you joining us in class on Monday 25th March at 2.30-3.15pm for our Parent celebration event.

Just a reminder:

The Year 2 children will be taking part in Scootability on Tuesday 26th March.  Please remember to bring scooters and helmets, (if your child is using their own) in on the Tuesday.

Next week, I will be in class all week along with Miss Smith, our amazing TA.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.  😊
