Plants and Direction for Leoaprds

We have started a new topic in Science looking 'Plants'. Leopard Class went for a walk around the school grounds on Tuesday to see what plants we could find and what they had in common. We named the parts of a plant by drawing and labelling them in our books. Then we moved on to thinking about the difference between bulbs and seeds we used all of our observational skills to talk about what we discovered and the children had the chance to see what was inside both as well! All KS1 classes had a visitor from Jackie, a gardener, who told us all about growing plants and how to look after them. On Friday, we set up an experiment to see what plants need to grow, we are going to see how cress plants grow. We have some with water and sunlight, some without both and some without water or sunlight.

In maths, the children have been looking at the vocabulary of position and different turns. This has also been recapping our shape knowledge.

As part of our English, we have started a very funny new book ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’. We have compared it to 'Jack and the Beanstalk', made a story map of the main events and thought about how we might help the giant with other problems. Here is a link for you to share if you would like to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNy3sCGaevI.

In PE, we have continued to practise our tennis skills and even set up a 1:1 game with a partner.

Next week:

  • Parents Evening is Tuesday and Wednesday, please make an appointment if you haven't already. I look forward to seeing you all.
  • We will be having our Easter service on Friday 22nd March 2pm at All Saints church. Due to limited space in the church, we are only inviting parents and carers of Y2 children and Bumblebee class children to join us for this occasion to attend the service. Children of those who attend the service can be collected after the service at the church and everyone else will be brought back to school to be collected at normal time. If for any reason you do not want your child to go to the church service, please speak to me or drop an email to the class email. If you are able to help walk the children to church, please let Miss McMillan know :)
  • Mrs Millard will be teaching Leopard Class on Thursday.

Hope you have a lovely weekend,

Miss McMillan and the Leopard Class Team :)
