Westbury Infant School and Resource Base


At Westbury Infants, we strive to give children the technical knowledge and skills to thrive in the ever changing technological world.

Our modern curriculum includes computer programming and coding using up-to-date technologies.

We provide every opportunity for learners to communicate and collaborate through online technologies.

Our excellent computer:child ratio provides the opportunity for children to acquire independence and competence, which can be applied across the whole curriculum. Children learn how to best use the internet for learning, at the same time as keeping themselves safe. Our aim is to create digitally literate citizens as well as highly skilled users of technology.

To further enhance teaching and learning across the curriculum, we have 70 iPads. These devices provide learning opportunities that would not ordinarily be possible. All curriculum areas benefit from the provision of our iPads. Apps are carefully selected and downloaded to best help children move forward in different subject areas. Children can learn from educational applications or can even record their own explanations for other children to learn from.

At Westbury Infants, we have a computing curriculum that uses the technology and software we have in school to its maximum capacity. This is hugely complimented by computing unplugged activities that reinforce computational thinking and other elements of the new curriculum.

Computing Unplugged - activities to do without the internet






Can you make an algorithm about :

- planting a seed

-making cakes

-making a jam sandwich

-your bedtime routine

-how you play snakes and ladders

(Remember to act your algorithm out to check it works perfectly, if not debug and put right!)

Can you set up a maze in the garden or in the lounge and get a brother, sister, mum or dad (blindfold them so they don't cheat) to follow your instructions to avoid any obstacles.  Your instructions need to be clear and accurate to be successful!  Good luck!

Give instructions to draw a Crazy Character:

-Don't let them see the drawing but ask them to first draw a circle for the body.

-Then draw 2 eyes

-Add a crown

-Add wings (don't say how many)

-Add four legs



Compare drawings - they should be different. 

How could you make the drawings more similar?  Yes, give more information, such as where to draw them, how big to draw them, how many to draw etc.
