Jack's beanstalk is very tall!

What a great week we have had in Honeybees focusing on all things, 'Jack and the Beanstalk.' The children read the story and enjoyed making large scale flower heads, leaves and beanstalks, some finished with a little glitter for extra sparkle. In addition to this the children really enjoyed their Bucket sessions this week where they watched a variety of flowers made using a range of media and were very excited to see the end result. We were so proud of the children's focus in these sessions, they didn't want them to end and continued to enjoy the activities after the Bucket sessions had finished.

Our math's focus this week has been mathematical language used to describe length. They were able to describe lengths using the words tall, taller, tallest and shortest. This led to us making a large scale beanstalk for the children to walk on. They described the beanstalk and got into character as either Jack or the giant. The children then went on to make their on models that were tall and short using a range of construction equipment.

Our writing focus this week has been formation of letters we are learning in our Read Write Inc phonic sessions. We have been really pleased to see the children are remembering the rhymes to help them form the letters and using these to help them write their own names - well done Honeybees!

During rhyme time this week we have enjoyed singing songs such as Round and Round the Garden, Incy Wincy Spider and Five Cheeky Monkeys. The children loved to sing and they joined in with the actions showing great listening skills. Our story time this week has seen a new book each day. These books have included Jack and the Beanstalk, Postman Pat, Tilly Plants a Seed and Supertato. The children particularly loved Supertato and asked for this to be read again throughout the week.

Our topic of Growing will continue next week, we cant wait to see what the children make of our new book Mr Wolf and the Enormous Turnip.

Have a fantastic weekend!
