A busy and creative week!

It was fantastic to see so many of you on Tuesday at our Parent Event and for the children to be able to share their puppets with you whilst making the finger puppets – it certainly looked like equal fun was had by all! As you saw, the children have made the most wonderful hand puppets, which involved learning a new skill of sewing a running stitch and following a design.  Well done Brilliant Beetles!  (Unfortunately, I have had a slight tech issue with the photos from the event, but I hope to upload them on my next blog.)

We continued our creative theme this week in RE.  Linking to our learning about different religions and beliefs within our community and the wider world, we have looked the importance of the Prayer Mat for Muslims.  We have discussed belonging and who and what is important to us.  We then created a mat incorporating all that is important to us.  The children produced beautifully decorated mats.

In Maths, we have been using the resources to practically problem solve.  We used the 2D and 3D shapes to identify properties and sort the shapes, explaining our reasons with mathematical vocabulary. We used money to help us find monetary totals before seeing how many different ways we could make the same amount.  The children are using all their maths learning to support their reasoning and problem solving.

In Life Skills, we looked at some of our body parts and their functions.  We followed ‘Harold’s Dance’ to get our hearts racing which helped us to feel them beating and our lungs expanding and contracting.  We learnt about the intestines and where our stomach and hearts are.  We also talked about the importance of the ribs to protect these organs. The children then listened to clues to identify which body part was being described.

New RWI reading books are issued on Fridays to all children.  May I request that you have a look at home for any books which need to be returned.  On this note, children should be bringing their reading book and reading journal to school every day. We are fortunate to have an additional reading session each week so it is really important that the children have their books in school so that they can share them with an adult during this time. You can further support your child with their reading by using the RWI links on the RWI blog. All Set 2 and 3 speed sound videos can be viewed following this link. https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/News/Phonics-Screening-Videos/
