A great start to the week!

Beetle Class had a great celebratory start to the week.  As a reward for filling their gem jar, the children enjoyed the reward of extra playtime on Monday afternoon. They have already made a great start refilling the jar.  Well done Brilliant Beetles!

We started new topics in both maths and history and the children have made a fabulous start in both.  In maths, we introduced multiplications with grouping.  The children have used various resources to support their understanding and have demonstrated their learning and understanding with great maths vocabulary.

Following on from Mrs Mitchell’s visit at the start of term, we have begun our History topic ‘Why are the achievements of Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole important?’  The children brought the learning to life and re-enacted key moments in Florence Nightingale’s life before creating a timeline in their books.  The have also put themselves in Florence Nightingale’s shoes and explained why they wanted to become a nurse.  We are all looking forward to Trowbridge Museum coming in next week with a Florence Nightingale workshop.

The children have been working on their balancing skills during PE, and this week they demonstrated their skills on the high-level equipment.  We were really impressed with the development of the children’s jump and balance skills as well as their support for each other – great teamwork as always.

In Computing the children created an algorithm for growing a plant in space.  The dipped back into their previous learning about plants and demonstrated that they knew exactly what the plant would need.  They then successfully wrote an algorithm to provide this.

Yr2 Cake Sale Monday 30th January.

We are holding a cake sale after school in the school playground to raise money for the school trips. Cakes will be 50p each or 3 for £1. Everyone welcome.  Are you able to bake a cake or make some biscuits for the stall? If you are not a baker or tight on time, purchased goods will also be gratefully received.  We are asking Yr2 for donations of cakes to be brought into class on the morning of Monday 30th January.

We have already had some entries for the Valentine drawing competition.  I will be displaying all entries on our class window.   Could all pictures please be handed into to myself or a member of Beetle Class team by Monday 6th February 2023.  The judging will be on the same day.

Just a couple of small reminders, if your child wears glasses please ensure that they have them in school each day. We are still missing a couple of homework books; can all homework books be in school next week so I can ensure Knowledge Organisers are in everyone’s books.  PE is on Tuesday, please ensure your child comes into school in their PE kit. Thank you.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!
