Adventures in Kenya!

The marvellous Meerkats thoroughly deserve this well-earned Bank Holiday long weekend – they have certainly been growing their brains this week!

The children started the week by jumping into the role of Jamina – the main character from our story The Hunter by Paul Geraghty.  The children, in groups, re-enacted the story and then performed their interpretations to the rest of the class.  Using their performances, the children discussed how they felt at each part of the story and then used this descriptive language to write a recount.  Such fabulous acting and teamwork, myself and Miss Smith were quite blown away!

Both Year 1 and 2 have been looking at fractions this week.  The Year 1 children have been using resources and shapes to find ½ and ¼ . The Year 2 children have been using bar models to find ½, 1/3 and ¼ of an amount before moving on to exploring non-unit fractions.

Sadly, we finished our geography topic of ‘Kenya’ this week.  The children have certainly enjoyed this learning and have been so enthusiastic throughout.  They all created a fact file and a 2-page spread of all their learning.  They produced some really colourful and informative pieces – some children even went to show their work to Mrs Newbury – it is reported that she was truly impressed! The children then went on a learning walk around to room to share and appreciate each other’s work.

PE was all about control this week.  The children had to control the ball whilst mirroring their partners moves and sequences.  The children demonstrated some fantastic ball and observations skills.  Just a reminder, PE is on Monday (outside) and Wednesday (inside) can children please wear their PE kit to school on these days.  Unfortunately, it is still chilly so joggers and sweatshirts (school ones are fine) please.

We visited the library on Tuesday and the children all choose a book to take home to share with you.  We hope you are enjoying them.  Please have a look at home for any unreturned school library books and return them as the library is used by all the children of our school.  Also, please check to see if you have any book bag books (not the current one your child is reading) and return them to school next week as new books are issued every Friday but not all children are bringing their previous weeks book in.

On that note, thank you for your continued support with your child’s reading.  Here’s link to the RWI blog.  https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/RWI-Blog/

Next week, I will be in class all week with Miss Smith, our amazing TA.  We look forward to seeing all the children on Tuesday.

Wishing you all a lovely bank holiday weekend – fingers crossed the sun might shine!
