All things practical and creative!

We have had a really fun week in Panda class this week with lots of practical activities to keep our learning super interesting.  In maths we have been continuing to learn about measuring but where as last week we were thinking about using a ruler to measure in metres and centimetres, this week we have been finding the mass of objects and measuring in grams and kilo grams.  Our year 1 children have been learning to compare the mass of different objects and put them in order from the lightest to the heaviest.  They have also practiced ordering the mass of 3 objects and using comparative language to say ` The shoe is heavier than the cup but is lighter than the chair'. You have worked so hard year 1. well done, great job! See if you can continue practicing finding the mass of objects at home and say the sentences to your grownup.  Year 2 children have been  really working hard to apply their skills at using the four operations + - X  and divide to solve problems involving the mass of objects.  For example, What is the mass of 4 chairs if 1 chair weighs 20kg?

On Wednesday we were treated to a wonderful concert by a medieval duo who came and performed a variety of musical pieces on a range of very unusual instruments, dating back hundreds and thousand of years.  They explained how music used to be used to send messages to people and showed the children how instruments were made from lots of different things in nature.  The children loved listening, clapping along to the catchy rhythms, joining in with actions and dancing along to the beats.

In art this week we have continued to explore the work of Henri Rousseau and we have had lots of fun mixing primary colours to make different shades of green.  We have learnt how adding black can make our colour darker and white can make it lighter.  We ended the week by practicing the technique of printing, using what we had previously learnt about colour mixing and using leaves to create our prints.  We definitely have some budding artists in the making!  Well done Panda class you are showing great determination and resilience in your attitude to learning.

In English this week we have been learning about writing instructions and all the features that make a great set of instructions.  We put our learning into practice by creating instructions on how to grow a sunflower.  Now we will need to wait patiently to see if our instructions worked and were followed correctly!

Please remember to keep reading daily and challenge yourself to see how many words you can read in 1 minutes. Make sure you are also practicing all of the set 2 and 3 sounds so that you know them really well and can use them to help you with reading and writing.  Next week  THURSDAY 7th  MARCH is world book day so please remember to come dressed as a word- colourful! sleepy! energetic! etc

Finally please remember we have swimming on a Tuesday and PE on a Wednesday for this term.  Have a lovely weekend x
