Amazing Giraffes!
Welcome Back!
It has been so wonderful to see all of the children they look refreshed and ready for the term ahead, they were certainly all ready for the break.
This week we have been reading the most wonderful story ‘Where the Poppies now Grow’. A link can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bS-QY1oxXsg We have then used this as a stimulus to think about what it would have been like on the battlefields. The children then wrote postcards home as one of the characters from the story.
In Maths, we have been looking at the value of numbers up to 100. We have been counting forwards and backs wards in steps of 10 and thinking about the numbers that they are made from. For example, 45 is made of 4 tens and 5 ones or 40 and 5. The children have then been representing these using different apparatus.
To build on our English text, in our topic work the children have been thinking about remembrance and the significance of the poppy, not just red ones! They have been looking at the events of the battlefields and the importance of a memory. This is just a short topic as we are looking at the significance both during our English and topic lessons. Next week we have another Science block looking at animals and how they survive so the children will be bringing home the knowledge organiser for you to share.
In computing, the children have been thinking about ‘what makes a good photograph’. They had great time using the school grounds taking photos using iPads.
Have a lovely weekend.
