Brilliant Artists!

Another week has just flown by whilst we were being super busy, even with only 4 days in school!  Thank you for the emails and work which has been sent in which the children completed at home on Wednesday whilst also having fun in the snow.

In Maths, we continued with our topic of length and height looking at word problems involving the 4 operations. We also drew 2D shape following specific lengths, the challenge being that all our shapes once drawn would look identical – they did!

This week we put all our art topic learning into practice.  We choose various types of media which we have been practicing to create a collage inspired by Henri Rousseau’s painting ‘Surprise’.  The children had sketched, printed and used oil pastels within the block to create the elements needed to make their final piece. They used these to create a background, foreground and then added their wild beast hiding it within the lush green forest – have a look to see if you can spot them.   The Beetle Class team have been blown away by the results – wow!!

In PE, we were using balls to demonstrate control within a sequence.  It was a bit tricky keeping hold of the ball but the amazing Beetles kept going and succeed in moving the ball in a figure of eight between their legs.  PE is on Tuesday every week, can children please come to school in their PE kit.

We have already spoken in Life Skills about keeping safe, who are our trusted adults and who to go to if we need help.  This week, we looked at other trusted adults outside of the home.  The children identified who they could go to for help in various situation, for example if they were lost.  They then drew pictures of these trusted adults.

We have shared two stories in our SPaG lessons this week. The children have particularly enjoyed the story of ‘The Gingerbread Girl’. Here’s a link to YouTube reading so you can enjoy sharing it at home too.

In RE, we have been looking at Mothering Sunday, the children wrote some beautiful descriptive poems.

Next week on Wednesday we have our trip to The Wild Place Project in Bristol.   Mrs Rockey, Miss Smith and Mrs Ball will be accompanying Beetle Class on this trip.  We will provide all of the children with school packed lunch, a snack and a bottle of water. However, if you do wish to provide your child with their own lunch, they will still receive the additional one from school.  The children will need to wear their school uniform and weather appropriate clothing please.  Can the children please bring a small backpack to carry their lunch.

Mrs Jeffery will be in class; Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with Mrs Rockey taking Beetle Class on Wednesday.

Wishing you all a very good weekend.

Mrs Jeffery, Mrs Rockey, Miss Smith and Mrs Ball.
