Brrrr!

It has certainly turned a little chillier after all that wet weather last week! Please can all children make sure they bring a coat to school now that the colder days seem to be settling in. On PE days, if children are wearing trainers with laces, they must be able to tie them independently—this really helps us keep the sessions running smoothly.

In English this week, we’ve been off on an icy adventure to Antarctica to learn all about penguins. The children explored a non-fiction book and learned how to use features such as contents pages, captions and diagrams to find information quickly. They then used what they had discovered to write their very own list poems using lots of descriptive words.

In Maths, we’ve been busy comparing numbers and groups of objects, using inequality symbols to show which is greater or less. The children are becoming much more confident and precise in their explanations. We’ve also been consolidating our understanding ready to move on to our next unit, which will be all about shape—always a favourite!

This week’s topic focus has been healthy eating. The children have been exploring what makes a balanced diet and thinking carefully about the different food groups. They then designed (and pretended to prepare!) their own ‘healthy meal’ for everyone to enjoy. Their imaginations were brilliant—there were some very creative dishes on the menu!

Next week, we’ll be starting a new Geography topic all about the weather. We’ll be looking at different types of weather, how it changes, and how it links to the polar regions and climates around the world. A knowledge organiser will be coming home with all the key information to help you chat about the topic together.

Have a lovely weekend—does anyone have their Christmas tree up yet?!
