Busy Beetles with ocarinas!

Well what a way to finish the week – the children all looked fabulous in their bright and wacky clothes and did brilliantly running around the trim trail for the sponsored Colour Run today! Thank you all for the sponsorship money which has been sent in.

We certainly have been busy Beetles.  We began our new maths topic on Monday of Mass, Capacity and Temperature.  We used the balance sales to compare the mass of everyday objects around our classroom before moving onto looking at how mass is measured in grams and kilograms.  The children all explored this by finding items they estimated as weighing 1g, 10g, and 100g.  We then reasoned about whether something is heavy just because it is big.  We compared a huge box with a full metal water bottle.  The children were surprised to find out the box was lighter – it was empty!

We have continued looking at the History of Cars in Topic.  The children have learnt about the first car and how in 1886 Bertha Benz introduced her husband’s invention to the world and changed our lives forever!  The children also created a production line to replicate an assembly line like in Henry Ford’s factory. The children will be learning more about this on their trip to The Haynes Motor Museum next week on Thursday 22nd June. We will provide all of the children with school packed lunch, a snack and a bottle of water. The children will need to wear their school uniform and weather appropriate clothing please.  Can the children please bring a small backpack to carry their lunch.

PE was outside this week and we practiced our relay skills. The children as always worked well in their teams and gave their teammates great encouragement. We then worked on our ball skills, concentrating on throwing and catching with precision.  As you can see in the pictures lots of concentration.

During computing this week, we discussed permissions and the children were all able to tell me who they could go to if they were unsure about anything online and why it is very important to check with an adult before giving permission online.  The following link give more information about online safety and includes a parental  controls booklet.  https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/Online-Safety/

In music we have started learning a new musical skill of playing the ocarina.  It was a bit tricky at first but we kept practising and by the end of the lesson we could all play the notes ‘high D, low D, B and A’.  What a musical bunch the Beetles are!!

Just a reminder, as the sun is now shining, please can children have sun hats in school every day so we can continue to use the outdoor spaces.  Also, please ensure that your child brings their reading book and journal to school each day as we are lucky to have extra support to hear the children read in school.  Reading books will be changed every Friday. You can support your child by reading with your child daily and using the supported resources on the RWI blog.  https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/News/Friday-16th-June-2023/

Next week, Mrs Jeffery will be in class; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with Mrs Rockey taking Beetle Class on Monday.

Wishing you all a very happy sunny weekend!

Mrs Jeffery, Mrs Rockey, Miss Smith and Mrs Ball.
