Busy Brilliant Arty Beetles

Thank you all so much for attending the Parent Consultation Evenings this week.  It was a wonderful opportunity for you to have a look at your child’s work and for me to speak with you.  Thank you all for your continued support with your child’ learning.  Please do access the links on the RWI blog.  Your child will know which group they are in but just ask if you need any help.  Keep up the reading!!

We have been super busy this week in class.  On Tuesday it was our class assembly, the children sang the song which we had been listening to and appraising in Music, to the whole school; Aardvarks, see the aardvarks… They also shared work from their sketch books, showing the sketching and pastel techniques that they have learnt.

In Art, we have been busy using pastels, colour mixing primary colours to create secondary colours and printing, all new skills in preparation for a culmination of mixed media art next week.

In Maths, we started our new topic of ‘Length and Height’.  The children began by looking at cm lengths, using a ruler, to then metre lengths using metre sticks to measure and compare lengths and heights.  As always, they demonstrated great teamwork as they worked with their partners measuring various things around the classroom – including each other!

We have begun a new unit in PE too.  This week we have been using balls to demonstrate control.  The children had to concentrate in order to move the ball around their bodies, first with two hands then one before rolling it up and down – without the ball falling or rolling away.  As the children showed real skill with this task they challenged themselves to synchronise the movements with a partner.

In Life Skills we enjoyed our refreshing fruit whilst sharing the story ‘My mouth is a volcano’.  The children came up with a variety of ideas that the little boy in the story could have used to help him when his mouth was about to erupt!

Wednesday was Beetle Class’ turn to visit the school library and we all enjoyed choosing a new book to take home.  I hope you enjoy sharing these at home.

Thursday saw a huge variety of word inspired costumes as you can see in the pictures! The children enthusiastically told me all about their words. What a fabulous way to celebrate World Book Day.

We finished the week today with music, this week appraising a reggae song ‘Kingston Town’.  We all joined in with our shakers, to dance and move to the rhythm.

Just a couple of reminders. Beetle Class trip to The Wild Place is on Wednesday 15th March, Mrs Rockey will be accompanying the children on this trip.  There are still some payments outstanding for this trip so if you have not yet paid please could you do so. PE day is Tuesday, could all children please wear their PE kit to school on this day. Many thanks.

Mrs Jeffery will be in class; Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday with Mrs Rockey taking Beetle Class on Thursday.

Wishing you all a good weekend.

Mrs Jeffery, Mrs Rockey, Miss Smith and Mrs Ball.
