Busy Busy Beetles!

Another fantastic week in Beetles Class.  The children have been very busy growing their brains and dancing!

In Maths, we have continued with our topic of ‘time’ and the children have been practising telling the time in 5-minute intervals.  We have also looked at how many minutes in an hour and how many hours in a day.  The children have been using the clocks to set and tell the time to practically develop this new skill of reading a clock.  Please, if you have any opportunity to support your child with this new learnt skill at home please do so – I’m sure the will be eager to show you what they know!

In our Geography this week, we have looked at the ‘Big 5’, ‘Maasai people and their culture’ and ‘life in Kenya’ to see how different life is in Kenya compared to Westbury.  The children have enthusiastically shared their knowledge about elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, lions and leopards. They have identified differences between Kenya and Westbury and we even did a little Kenyan dance in class.

We continued our theme of partner work in PE this week and the children worked with their partners to create balance sequences, supporting each other with both the balances and the trust in each other.  Lots of supportive talk and words of encouragement could be heard, especially for some of the trickier balance poses. Check out the pictures.

In Life Skills we discussed choices and the children identified which things they do have a choice in and which things their adults decide for them.  The children shared their ideas and then recorded them in their Topic books.

Friday afternoon was all about ‘Rock and Roll’ as we listened and danced to ‘Roll and Roll Teddy Bear’.  The children identified which instruments they could hear and danced in time to the music. What a rhythmic bunch of Beetles!

We shared ‘Oi, Duck-billed Platypus!’ by Kes Gray in class this week and had fun trying to think up rhymes for our own names.  Here’s the link if you would like to share the story at home with your child.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ag2NSYz20xw

We have our coronation celebration event next Friday so the children can come to school dressed as Kings and Queens. They will however, need their PE kit to change into for a dance workshop.   We will be having a street party in the playground in the afternoon.

Just a couple of reminders, please make sure your child’s book and reading journal is in school every day.  Also, all children still need a coat in school as it is still a bit chilly and wet.

Next Monday is Early May Bank Holiday and Tuesday is a staff training day, so we will see the children all back in school on Wednesday.   Next week, Mrs Jeffery will be in class; Wednesday and Friday with Mrs Rockey taking Beetle Class on Thursday.

Wishing you all a Bank Holiday weekend!

Mrs Jeffery, Mrs Rockey, Miss Smith and Mrs Ball.
