Busy week for Glow Worms

This week has been a busy one for Glow Worms!

The children started a new area in maths on Monday- shape. We discussed the names of 2D and 3D shapes and sorted them into groups based on different criteria. The children really impressed me with the knowledge they remembered from last year! They searched the classroom for examples of 2D shapes and we also made 3D shapes from playdough to think about their sides and corners, some were easier to make than others! To end the week, the children learned about repeating patterns. They used a variety of objects around the room to create their own patterns- they really enjoyed this!

In PE, we focused on balancing and had a go at testing our skills like catching a bean bag while balancing on a bench. This was a real challenge, but all of the children gave it a go and were very resilient.

In DT, the first lesson tasked the class with designing their Christmas card. Then, some children began to make them, the children were creative and thought carefully about what mechanism they wanted to use. The other half of the class will be making their cards next week.

This week saw the start of our Christmas celebrations. The children were very excited to see the classroom and hall decorations when they came into school on Thursday. In addition, our class Kindness Elf arrived on Thursday and the children all sprinkled her with glitter once they had decided on her name – Elfie.

We have started to sing the nativity and church service songs which is getting us into the spirit already. If your child has a spoken part, please practice their lines with them if you can but don’t worry if this isn’t possible, as we will make lots time for this in school too.  Costumes (in a named bag please) are due into school by Thursday 8th.  Again, if you are struggling to source any costumes, please do come and see one of the Glow Worm Class team and we will be more than happy to help you. Thank you for those who have already sent their costumes in.

Well done Glow Worms, keep up the hard work for another busy week ahead!

NOTE: We are looking for two more adult helpers to help Glow Worm Class walk to the church on Friday 9th December. Please let Miss McMillan know if you are available to come along. We will be leaving the school at 1:30pm and arriving back before 3pm.

Also, thank you for all of the support with the news that I will be continuing to teach Glow Worm class for the rest of the year, it is much appreciated :)
