Cars and construction.

It was all about DT and cars this week.  First, we constructed our cars following our designs and plans.  The children used their previous learning to decide about the best placement of their axles and wheels before creating doors, windows and windscreens. They used a pivot mechanism to create a wiper and hinges so that the doors could open – some even incorporated a window!  The next day, the children had the opportunity to show their cars to the rest of the school during out class assembly and talk about the process they had followed.  Then we began painting and adding the finishing touches – pictures of the finished models coming soon!

Our maths learning has been very practical too this week. The children have used grids to successfully give and follow positional directions.  There were some very focussed faces and great listening skills in force when the children tried hard to navigate each other around the classroom.  We have looked at and used positional vocabulary to explain patterns and sequences and we are getting there with identifying our left and right.  We then used all our new skills to play a game, whereby we had to navigate the pirate to the treasure.

We created animations using the Scratch programme in Computing.  The children successfully used loops and two programmes to make animals move in a realistic manner.  The added sound and controlled the speed that the animal would naturally move at.   We had some very fast buzzy bees and slow slithering snakes.

We have taken the opportunity again this week to get outside with our skipping ropes for a fresh air breaks in between the down pours.  The children have really developed their stamina and skill with their skipping.

Please take the opportunity this weekend to have a look for any RWI book bag books that you might have at home and please return them to school next week.  Thank you 😊 Here’s the link to the RWI blog with ideas and links to support your child with their reading.  https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/News/Friday-14th-July-2023/
