Creative Beetles

We have been very creative this week putting our new sewing skills into practice with the creation of our hand puppets.  The children designed their puppet at the start of the week and then followed their design and criteria to make their puppet.   It was tricky sewing a running stitch but we were so impressed with the perseverance and resilience shown by the children to keep going, even when those tricky threads kept escaping from the needle!  A special thank you to Mrs Anderson and Mr Lindsay for joining Beetle Class on Wednesday and Thursday to help with the activity. We look forward to showing you the puppets next week at our Parent Event.

Parent Event – Tuesday 23rd May at 2.30pm in Beetle Classroom.  Linking to our current DT Topic, we will be making finger puppets.

PE was all about teamwork this week.  The children had to work together to collect as many beanbags in a set time but also think strategically and decide if it was best to collect or use their turn to return another team’s bag to the main pile.  It was fun packed and the children engaged with good humour and acceptance especially when another team ‘stole’ one of their beanbags in a return move.  As you can see from the pictures, it was incredibly fast paced.

We discussed hygiene and keeping clean in Life Skills this week and the children were full of ideas about what we use to keep ourselves clean.  We then focussed on oral hygiene and the children drew pictures to help then remember how to look after their teeth.

In RE we looked at how different religious practices bring a sense of belonging to those who follow that religion. We discussed which groups we belong to and how it makes us feel being part of a club, group, class, school or religious practice.

New RWI reading books are issued on Fridays, may I request that you have a look at home for any books which need to be returned.  On this note, children should be bringing their reading book and reading journal to school every day. We are fortunate to have an additional reading session each week so it is really important that the children have their books in school so that they can share them with an adult during this time. You can further support your child with their reading by using the RWI links on the RWI blog https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/News/Friday-19th-May-2023/

We have shared some new books this week, a particular favourite was ‘Way home for Wolf’ by Rachel Bright.  We even had a wolf puppet join us to help to bring the story alive.  Here’s the link so you can share it at home https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6UaoUIB_CU  Watch out for the ‘Arrrroooooo’.

Friday was all about the music and the movement.  We listened to a piece of music by Mozart called Rondo alla Turca.   We thought about how the music made us feel and then clapped, tapped, ‘air piano played’ the pulse.  We then listened to another piece of music and the children initially followed the dance moves from the clip before creating their own moves.  It certainly had us wiggling and jiggling on a Friday afternoon!

Wishing you all a happy weekend!
