End of term and team work!

What a busy last week we have had in Panda Class finishing off our learning and working together as a team.  I can't believe how quickly this first term has passed and how well the children have embraced their new learning.  You definitely deserve a well earned rest. Well done Panda Class.

This week we have enjoyed taking part in our Harvest Festival service at the Church and are very grateful to everyone who was able to help us walk the children safely to and from the church and those who were able to come and share in the service where the children sang some catchy, cheerful songs and shared some poems and prayers.

In drawing club we have been using the book Billy and the Beast to spark our imaginations and help ups create some amazing illustrations as well as write some interesting codes.  We have continued to focus on using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces in our codes as well as extending our ideas with adjectives, noun phrases, conjunctions and the use of plurals. If you would like to share the story at home together you can find the link below.

In Maths this week we have been looking at subtractions, using First, Then and Now stories to support our understanding.  The children have been practicing how to record the number sentences using the correct symbols and in year 2, using a number line to find missing numbers and difference.

We completed our wonderful learning  based on the work of Andy Goldsworthy and the children created some wonderful pieces of 'Land Art', experimenting with different colours, pattern and shape.  Maybe in the holidays if you go for a walk in the park or countryside, make a collection of leaves, conkers, acorns etc and then create your own piece of art work.  Take a photo and send it in, we would love to see it! Or if you are fortunate enough to go to the beach why not try stacking stones and see how many you can stack before they collapse into an abstract picture!

In PE this term we have been learning about team games and thinking carefully about what qualities help a team to be successful. Some children find sharing and taking turns quite easy but others have had to really work hard at letting others have a turn.  We had fun trying to include everyone in our team whilst we tried to find the right colours and shapes to make the faces.  Why not try playing some games together at home?  Games are a fun way to learn how to take our turn, how to be a good sport and why we need to follow the rules.  Maybe you could draw a picture of your favourite game and bring it in to show us at the start of next term.
