Exploring Beetles

What a fabulous week Beetles Class have had!  The highlight definitely being the trip to The Wild Place Project, which I am sure you have heard all about.  The children had the most wonderful day and saw so many animals in their natural habitat.  A wonderful opportunity for the children to be outside all day and see the animals and habitats that we are learning about in class.  I was so proud to hear that they were all amazing on the trip – Well done Brilliant Beetles!!  Talking of Brilliant Beetles, the children filled their gem jar again and so had extra playtime on Friday as a reward.

In class we have been busy Beetles too.  In our new Science Topic, ‘Who lives here and why?’  we looked at the 7 life processes and used MRS GREN to help us identify whether something is alive or not.  We then looked at different habitats, bringing together our new knowledge from the trip.  We will continue with this topic until the end of term.

In Maths we are learning about fractions, starting with finding half then moving on to quarters.  The children have first used the resources to help them find half of a total and then they drew and cut shapes to show half and a quarter.  The children have been using their maths vocabulary to explain how we know it’s half and a quarter and why some shapes can’t be halved. Well done super mathematicians!

In RE we read about the Palm Sunday story and spoke about its place within the Easter Story.  We will be having our Easter Service in the Church on Friday 24th March at 2pm.  All Year 2 parents are welcome to attend.

In PE we were practicing controlled throwing, the children had a small target and bean bag.  In pairs they took turns moving further and further away from the target and then in teams, the children had to try and get their bag closest to the target.  We saw some amazing target skills; the children finished the session with a whole class down the line target throw.  PE is on Tuesday every week, can children please come to school in their PE kit.

Life Skills this week supported our previous and continuous e-safety learning.  The children discussed how to stay safe online.  The were able to explain that we never share personal information, passwords and only play games with people we know.  Please see the link on the school website for information about e-safety, including a parental controls booklet.  https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/Online-Safety/

Please continue reading with your child daily.  Also, please do look at the RWI blog.  It has links to support your child’s reading development.   If you are not sure of your child’s group please just ask.  https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/News/Friday-17th-March-2023/
