Friday 10th March

Wow the week seems to have flown by especially with a day of remote learning due to the snow. It would be lovely to see any pictures you may have taken on your snow day. Please upload them to Tapestry.

This week the children have started to learn about Farms. The children have discovered some farms are for growing crops and/or for raising animals. The children have been learning all about arable farms this week and at the end of the week we planted some tomato seeds. We had to talk about how to care for our tomato seeds and discussed how they would grow. We watched a time lapse video on how a tomato plant develops and grows. It will take about 120 days before we see any tomatoes.

In our maths learning, we have been learning about the number nine. The children enjoyed creating collections of nine. We used the numicon shapes to discover what numbers hide in nine and the children discovered lots of combinations. At the end of the week we watched an episode of numberblocks called ‘Peek a boo’. In this episode the number blocks hide behind each other. The children used their number knowledge to work out which numbers were smaller or larger and then say which numberblock was hiding. They enjoyed playing a game of peek a boo in class where three children hid behind the number 6. The children who were the audience had to say which numbers were hiding. It was lots of fun!

It is lovely to see the children trying really hard in their RWI sessions. If you would like to support their reading/writing development then why not check out the RWI blog.

In our small world area, the children have been busy creating farmyard scenes and using these as an inspiration to create a map of a farm. Check out our maps below…
