The focus of learning this week was linked to trains. The children have enjoyed listening to a variety of stories such as ‘Lucy’s Train Ride’, ‘The Train Ride’ and ‘Oi, get off our train.’ The children have also taken part in virtual train rides to see different settings. The stories inspired our children’s writing this week. The children thought about what they may see if they were on a train journey and where they might travel to.
When playing the children have taken to topic of trains into their play. They have created shape trains, used different construction materials to create a train and also practiced their fine motor skills using the tip and tap or loom bands to make a train. The train set this week was a huge hit and the children added scenery and settings around the track so that they could go on a journey.
In PE, the children have focused on their gymnastic skills. The children have been learning different ways to rotate using the following techniques pencil rolls, rock and roll to stand as well as circle rolls. They are having great fun showing their techniques and skills to each other.
In Maths this week, we focused on positional language and spatial reasoning. The children had the opportunity to build models by following instructions that involved positional language. The children enjoyed challenging each other to build a model that matched one hidden behind a barrier. It was great fun to see the models we created and whether they matched or not.
