Reception children are becoming readers!! It is amazing to see the progress the children are making towards blending sounds together to read words. We are currently working with the children to identify and close the gaps in their set 1 sound knowledge and some children have started to learn their set 1 special friends.  We hope by the end of term the children will confidently know all set 1 sounds including the special friends sh, ch, th, ng & nk and be reading green word cards.

Children in Year One are reviewing set 1 and set 2 sounds. The children need to become really confident with the second set of set 2 sounds and begin to learn some set 3 sounds.

Year two children have been reviewing the Set 2 and Set 3 sounds. Year 2 are working on recognising the sounds speedily. We are also focusing on Speedy reading of the green word cards that contain set 2 and 3 sounds.

Please can you continue to support your child’s reading by reading their book bag books daily as this helps the children’s confidence and fluency when reading. Sharing lots of stories at home will support your child’s enjoyment and love of reading.

Teachers will be sharing links to a story that has been read in class every fortnight. This is another great way to share a story together.
